I'm not much of a poet and a poem reader (can't find the exact term). I can't even understand the simplest of lines. One time, just for the heck of it, I read Pablo Neruda's Tonight I Write the Saddest Lines. And guess what?!! I enjoyed it. The cheesy lines and all. I can't forgive myself for saying this but its one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read...actually, its the 4th serious poem I have read..not counting those kindergarten craps my teacher thought me. I posted it here for you to read. Enjoy!
Pablo Neruda
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
and the stars, blue, shiver in the distance."
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.
I kissed her so many times under the infinite sky.
How could I not have loved her large, still eyes?
To think I don't have her. To feel that I've lost her.
And the poem falls to the soul as dew to grass.
The night is full of stars and she is not with me.
My soul is lost without her.
My heart searches for her and she is not with me.
We, we who were, we are the same no longer.
My voice searched the wind to touch her ear.
belonged to my kisses.
Her voice, her light body. Her infinite eyes.
Love is so short and oblivion so long.
my soul is lost without her.
and this may be the last poem I write for her.
